As a nine-year-old in Brazil, I first understood inequality. Today in the U.S., our rights are still being challenged. The journey for equality continues.

After publishing this story, I got many messages in private from friends sharing their first experiences with inequality. It's sad but not surprising that many of us have something similar to share. That's exactly what I intend to do in this space — create a conversation about how these personal, intimate stories reflect the flaws in our system and the perpetuation of patriarchal values that often lead to many women losing their lives.
